![]() ![]() In thirteen chapters, All About Love engages the reader with love’s wisdom to be touched by love’s graces. ![]() This book provides readers a new perspective through “radical new ways to think about the art of loving, offering a hopeful, joyous, vision of love’s transformative power.” Third, hooks details the genealogy of love, again contending with the gendered expectations and the contradictions surrounding and accepting that we know so little about love in theory and in practice. Second, she presents that love as a theoretical concept is often narrated by men, whereas women are expected to be the practitioners of love. Conceived by the necessity of a definition for love, in the midst of an increasingly loveless society, this tells us “how to return to love.” First, hooks contends with the cynicism surrounding love in popular culture, to name that many people use that cynicism to mask their fear of disappointment and heartbreak. All About Love is an important contribution that seeks to fill a long-existing gap in the literature on love, especially through the perspective of a woman. ![]()

![]() There were four young men in charge of organizing the festival. The flower was a symbol of the hippie movement during the 1960s. The Woodstock Festival, held for three days in August 1969, was a pop and rock concert that was the most successful music event of all time. Concert performances of that scale have not been held since then. Jean Michel Jarre performs four concerts yearly, attracting over a million people. He performed on Copacabana Beach on New Year’s Eve in 1994 for 3.5 million people. Rod Stewart holds the current world record for the largest concert performance. The Love Parade, an annual celebration of music and fun, drew more than 1.6 million visitors to Dortmund in 2008. AC/DC, Metallica, and The Black Crowes formed the Soviet Union’s Monster of Rock in 1991. In Rio de Janeiro, the Rolling Stones‘ 2006 performance on Copacabana beach drew 1.5 million fans. ![]() But regarding sheer scale, the biggest concert ever was the Live Aid benefit concert in 1985, which was staged simultaneously in London and Philadelphia and featured an unprecedented lineup of music’s biggest stars. The largest audience for a multiple-day event was probably the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969, which attracted an estimated 400,000 people over four days. ![]() The answer may depend on how you define “biggest.” The largest attendance for a single-day concert was the 2010 Love Parade in Duisburg, Germany, which drew an estimated 1.6 million people. ![]() ![]() ![]() The angular figures posing stiffly in Curte’s randomly scattered tableaux do little to either raise or turn down the heat of a narrative that runs to lines like: “He was about to crush his lips to Alastair’s…when a scream split the air. With 11 ensemble characters (not counting the odd Greater Demon) to juggle, Clare uses up most of her chunky page count untangling the romantic snarls of the first two volumes-plus chucking in occasional attacks by lesser demons or raving maniac Tatiana Blackthorn to give her demon-slaying Edwardian-era Nephilim something to do besides steamily tonguing one another, lengthily weltering in secret longing and self-loathing, or (at last!) explicitly consummating their ardor. Belial, Prince of Hell, makes his move on London in this trilogy closer. ![]() ![]() The original film trilogy was in the books' native language of Swedish, and while those films were well-received, critics argued that due to the language barrier, the series didn't reach as wide an audience as it could have if the films were made in English. In 2009, Larsson's home country of Sweden chose to recreate the Millenium trilogy on the silver screen. With all the success of the novels, what better way to celebrate such a popular franchise than to adapt it into films? While only the first three books were released initially, the success of those three led to the other related novels Larsson wrote to be released. In 2008, Larsson became one of best-selling fiction authors thanks to the English translation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest becoming the bestselling books in 2010. Stieg Larsson is the journalist and activist responsible for the best-selling Millennium trilogy of crime novels, which were published in 2005 after Larsson's death in 2004. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Universal | The effect owning your shame and saying it happened can have to freeing others Henry Kissinger | Chuck recalls the game he played and shares why emotional pain is so hard Invention of Sound | Chuck explores the commodification of human experience So What | Chuck shares his take on this mantra to not be hindered by someone else’s agenda Ĭhoose Your Problem | Chuck explains the power of inventing your own major problem Live Forever | Opposing ideals of living forever and doing infinite things or one thing One Thing | Chuck explains history without one person and committing to one thing in life Guts | Chuck’s experience publicly reading his book Guts & shedding pretense of looking good ![]() Order Chuck Palahniuk’s new book, Invention of Sound: ĭark Side | Chuck’s take on types of people not dealing with unresolved darkness Chuck PALAHNIUK, well known author for the Fight Club, Guts and many more, takes you through a journey of highs and lows as he reveals the world through the lens through which he sees the fascination called life. In any event, Carl Hiassen's Florida roots run deep. I don't know for sure, so don't quote me. My hunch is that this man was our Carl's grandfather and namesake. There is an entry in there for Carl Andreas Hiaasen, attorney of 2417 Northeast 27th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, born and in the practice of law since 1923. That is the year Carl would have turned 18. I have a reference book titled "Outstanding Floridians" that was published in 1971. It didn't work, but it's a super fun read anyway. This book was a hilarious look at Florida tourism, and Hiaasen claims he wrote it to scare tourists away. Read the book and you will understand why the Chamber of Commerce types hate Hiaasen. To better understand this, I read "Tourist Season", and instantly became a Carl Hiaasen fan. Why was he the most hated of Florida authors, at least by this group? He was even less liked by the Chamber leadership. I began to hear Hiaasen's name, and it was clear he was not well liked by the average chamber member. My new job as regional manager of a large consulting firm required me to join the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. ![]() I first heard about him when I moved to Miami in 1992 a couple of weeks after Hurricane Andrew had laid much of Miami-Dade County to waste.
